Women studying the Bible and MP3 Bibles in their mother tongue while they are learning how to read and write in the process. |
YES … Mozambican women are on the run! Well … not literally, I think. I always thought I should have been a journalist. I love newspaper headings! If nothing else, I could at least be employed at a newspaper creating headlines. Or subtitles. I’m a headline type of personality. Anyway! There has been so much happening around me that I am trying to catch my breath. We have had so many highlights during this month that I stand in awe many times. God has a wonderful and unique way putting things together. And from my angle … which is very low – it is amazing to see how it changes people. And that is just about what we do here if you didn’t know: Loving God and loving people, so that others can love God and love people.
Women teachers give up their own free time to teach others how to read and write through the Bible. Nothing stronger than a volunteer and co-worker! |
Take our rural Mozambican women for example. I don’t think 24 hours in a day is sufficient to get them through the day. This is what I have observed by watching them:
00 Sweeping the yard – getting ready for the day!
00 The little bit there is to eat – already prepared – done and dusted.
00 Getting children on their way to school.
00 Walking many miles to start collecting water for the family.
01 During planting season – working on the fields from 04:00 to plant maize and vegetables.
00 Attends women literacy school to work on her own self-development.
01 Babies need to be fed continually.
00 There is no lunch …. so chew on whatever is available.
00 Getting ready to receive the children from school.
00 Because women can now read and write … help kids to understand their school work.
00 Church meetings in the community and work on the church fields on Thursdays.
00 Carrying more water from the well. That means carrying 20 liters of water on your head.
00 Prepare food as everyone is back home. Same menu every night!
00 Wash and eat with the little bit there is.
00 Share stories and life around the campfire.
00 Fire is out … wood is out ….. tomorrow’s another day.
01 Oh yes …. and then there is dad …! Eish!
